These past few years showed us even more how much Harwich is a desired location for homebuyers. As residents and business owners, we know why we make Harwich our home.

When asked why homebuyers are choosing Harwich, Tony Guthrie of Team Guthrie/Mabile of Berkshire Hathaway Robert Paul Properties said, “Buyers want Harwich because of the ‘authentic’ Cape Cod experience. People are drawn to the diverse villages that each have their own charm and vibrancy. What is not to love? Wonderful sandy beaches and amazing restaurants. I have been in real estate for 30 years and the big draw is the overall welcoming and friendly nature of Harwich residents. A few years ago, I can remember that Harwich was voted the second friendliest seaside town in America.”

Richard Waystack from William Raveis shares a great story from this year: “I’m at an open house on Miles Street and a couple walks in with their kids and I greet them as I do with everyone, ‘How are you?’ They respond, ‘Good, and you?’ I respond with ‘Living the Dream.’ They then said to me, ‘We want to be living the dream in Harwich. We can work anywhere and want our own space here.’ Once they realize you can live here, many do just that and find their dream home here in Harwich.”

Martha Knapp of Kinlin Grover notes that buyers are looking at homes with a different perspective. “For example: Is there a private and separate space to work from? Does it have or offer the potential for outdoor living space with hardscaping options such as patios, fire pits, pools, and outdoor cooking areas. Often, they ultimately choose Harwich for several reasons. They like the small-town feel with the benefit of the amenities. They appreciate the balance of easy access to the bike paths, beautiful Sound beaches, conservation areas to explore or kayak, and the convenience of access to Outer Cape destinations. Most clients have commented on how everything else seemed more difficult during the pandemic and yet the real estate transaction was relatively easy and smooth. The consensus has been ‘If we can buy/sell a house during a pandemic, we can do anything.’ My goal is to always make the transaction as easy as possible for my clients and achieving that goal during a pandemic is very satisfying.”

Amy Brady from William Raveis Real Estate shared that what she likes to ask when she is selling someone a house in Harwich is what activities and sports they enjoy, because Harwich has most of them to offer! She also highlights the three harbors where you can off load your boat into Nantucket Sound for great fishing and swimming. “Take a boat ride out of Saquatucket Harbor to go seal watching or a trip on the ferry to Nantucket Island and Wychmere Harbor, which is one of the most picturesque harbors with all its boating activity. Then there is Brooks Park in Harwich Center, with tennis courts, the children’s playground, soft ball fields, etc. Baseball in the summer under the lights at Whitehouse Field with the Cape Cod Baseball League, Home of the Harwich Mariners. The many freshwater ponds, Long Pond being the largest freshwater pond on the Cape, are great for boating and swimming. The two public golf courses, Cranberry Valley and Harwich Port Golf course.”
