Blind Birder Bird-a-Thon
Open to birders who are blind or have vision loss and their sighted partners. No prior experience is necessary to enjoy this program. During this leisurely birding exploration, a Birdability Captain will guide participants along the 0.5-mile accessible loop trail. Our pace will be slow to take in the sounds and sights of birds and wildlife. The trail travels through wetland, stream and pond habitats, making it an ideal location for a variety of passerines, hawks and waterfowl. The trail also includes numbered nestboxes that attract Eastern Bluebirds and Tree Swallows. The event will begin and end next to the paved parking lot. The trail surface is flat, hard-packed soil and crushed stone and is suitable for wheelchairs and mobility devices. The trail has no steps or gates and two bench stops to create a comfortable and quiet place to rest along our exploration. The trail is heavily unshaded and has no railings, except for our two bridge crossings. Service animals are welcomed. Note this location also welcomes leashed dogs.
